Carlsbad Wine Merchants Sees Red for Good:
Popular local wine destination donates funds from exclusive Carlsbad inspired wine to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad

CARLSBAD, CALIF. For a limited time, red means green for the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad. Carlsbad Wine Merchants, a local fine wine purveyor and winery-inspired tasting room, recently announced that throughout September, a portion of the proceeds from its exclusive Zinfandel cuvee, Carlsbad Red, will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad.

The wine was honored as Featured Wine Selection for the 2006 Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad Gala, which sparked creative thinking to support the organization further. “The Boys & Girls Club is such a tremendous, positive force in Carlsbad,” says Kathy Bankerd, proprietor of Carlsbad Wine Merchants. “Carlsbad Red and the Boys & Girls Club are both special to Carlsbad, so we thought one Carlsbad treasure helping another was an ideal fit.”

The September drive marks the latest in the shop’s charitable efforts to assist the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad. “We regard ourselves a good neighbor in the community and are proud to support its youth,” Bankerd says. “September is back-to-school month, which means increased activity at the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad. What better time to step up and support it?”

Since its debut, Carlsbad Red has quickly become a regional hit for vibrant fruit, balance and an easy drinking “barbecue and friends” style inspired by the legendary lifestyle of Carlsbad. “We selected this unique cuvee as an expression of the rich tapestry of tastes, color and soft structure that embody Carlsbad living,” Bankerd says. “From the label, a colorful abstract from a local artist, to the bouquet and flavor, the color and scents reflect Carlsbad’s warm and friendly outdoor living, and delight the senses with the expression of sunsets, berry fields and flower fields.”
