Dr. Steven Guber Makes a Splash at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad

(October 11, 2005 – Carlsbad, CA) Dr. Steven Guber is no stranger to generosity, having volunteered time to Project Hope, Project Concern, and a Latino Clinic. “I was in training to be a pediatrician when a child died in my arms,” stated Dr. Guber.  “That was what made me decide to become a surgeon.”  He completed his surgical internship and residency at UCSD. Even after a tragic twist of fate changed his life forever, his caring for others continues.  A mountain bike accident curtailed his career, and that is how he was introduced to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad – through a rehab program held at the Village Branch pool.  “I wanted to give something back to the organization that has helped me so much since my accident,” said Dr. Guber.  His generous $9,500 gift has been designated for repair and upgrades to the pool, including new lockers. “Our locker room was in dire need of an upgrade,” said Ron Sipiora, the Club’s Chief Professional Officer.  “Our members and pool patrons so appreciate Dr. Guber’s kindness.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad Village Branch offers an indoor pool with water temperature of 85 degrees, providing members and guests with year-round swimming, exercise, even physical therapy.  The pool ranges from 3.5 feet to 9 feet in depth.  The aquatic area features showers, restrooms and lockers with handicap accessibility.  Lifeguards are on staff at the pool to ensure safety.  Open Monday through Saturday, the pool is closed Sunday and all federal holidays.
