(April 9, 2005 -- Oceanside, CA) A full field of 144 golfers participated in the 54th Annual Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad's annual golf classic at the El Camino Country Club on March 27.
This year's sold-out tournament, which was presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company, began with a shotgun start at noon and concluded with a buffet dinner and awards banquet later in the evening.
During dinner, which featured an array of delectable dishes including chicken, sushi, salad, fresh fruit, cookies and cakes, guests had the opportunity to bid on both silent and live auction items. Silent auction and opportunity drawing items included gift baskets, certificates for dinner, movies and yoga lessons, golf items, mountain bikes, and more.
During the live auction, attendees bid on luxurious prizes such as weeklong vacations in Colorado, Hawaii, Mexico and Utah, a Goodyear Blimp ride for two and several items autographed by celebrities.
Rickey Laster, Reece Jarrett, Rick Hackley and Gordon Brown from Carter Reese & Associates were the first-place golf team, but the real winners were the children served by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad, as the tournament raised approxi- mately $130,000.
Scott Grugel of Interior Specialists, Inc. served as steering chair of the 2006 tournament committee, along with honorary chairman Mike Levesque of Lennar San Diego, and past honorary chairmen Tony Mata and Mick Pattinson. Other committee members included Cindy Broderdorf, Bethlyn Burditt, Gasper Chifici, Elizabeth Conkle, Jennifer Cornelius, Cassandra Crites, Robert Fletcher, Thomas Kidwell, Jason Labrum, Eddie Maldonado, Sharon McCoy, Jim Morrison, Judee Pepper, Karen Shaffer, Connie Stevenson and Michael Thome.
Interior Specialists Inc. and PBS&J provided the majority of the 50 volunteers, who worked throughout the day of the tournament.
