INVITROGEN VOLUNTEERS SHARE THEIR PASSION FOR THE ENVIRONMENT WITH KIDS

(Carlsbad, CA – August 8, 2006)  On July 13, over 100 local Invitrogen employees traded in their lab coats to partner and educate Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad members about the environment.  Invitrogen’s 3rd Annual Global Volunteer Day provided employees worldwide with a half day of company time to participate in employee-organized volunteer activities.

“We have a tremendous amount of momentum leading into this year's Global Volunteer Day," said Gregory T. Lucier, Chairman and CEO of Invitrogen. "Over the past two years our employees have experienced firsthand what can be accomplished in their communities and many have developed a year-round dedication to service. I am excited by the anticipation and energy I feel from our team."

This year’s theme was “Invitrogen Goes Green.”  Volunteers inspired young people to make their world a better place through various games and activities, as well as presentations by representatives of Aquatic Adventures and the San Diego Wild Animal Park.  Ten-year-old Gloria McGahan summed up the experience by saying, “I thought it was fun because we got to learn from grown-up partners, and usually grown-ups don’t have a lot of time for kids.  We learned a lot about the environment around us, and that if there are trees on a hill there will be less erosion.”
