Tony Garcia’s Act of Kindness
(March 30, 2006 – Carlsbad, CA) When most people were celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on March 17, Tony Garcia was out shopping for a new bike. Not for his own sons – but for a kid named Lannon Powell. Earlier that day, Tony was picking up his son from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad and heard that Lannon’s bike had been stolen. “I remember how I felt when my bike was stolen years ago, and I wanted to help. I told Lannon he could have my oldest son’s bike,” said Tony Garcia. Once home, Tony noticed that the bike he had promised had no brakes. A promise is a promise after all, so Tony went out and purchased a brand-new bike for Lannon, and delivered it to him at the Club the next day.
Lannon couldn’t stop smiling when he saw his shiny, brand-new bike, and Club staff members were astounded by Tony’s unsolicited act of kindness. Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad joins Lannon Powell in thanking Tony for his compassion and caring for others. Not surprisingly, Tony Garcia had been named the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad’s “Parent of the Year” in 2005.
