Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad Members Swing Into Summer

(June 24, 2005 — Carlsbad, CA)   Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad celebrated the educational success and school year progress of its Club members on June 9, 2005 with an end of the school year celebration “Swing Style!” 

Club Members were taken back in time to the swingin’ era of the 1940’s and 50’s with musical entertainment provided by High Stakes Swing, an eleven piece ensemble of young, talented musicians and singers who performed big band songs from the era. Diane Rocha of North County Cotillion provided swing dance instruction.  Club members also had the opportunity to have their photo taken next to one of the custom hot rods of North County San Diego Christian Rods and Customs and a Harley motorcycle courtesy of Paul Macaluso, all of which were part of this festive celebration.  Other activities included hula-hoop contests, best-dressed contest, and best dance moves competition.  Snacks and 50’s style shakes were available from our Club teens and Keystone group. 

Our Club members have worked hard during the 2004-2005 school year through programs such as Power Hour-Critical Homework Minutes, Goals for Graduation, Club Tech, and many more.  They deserved the chance to celebrate all their accomplishments, kick back, and do a little jump, jive, and wailin’!
